Hiya!
This week has been beautiful here and with it has come the kicking-all-the-sheets-off-at-night heat🥵
Cupcake and Mancha have been doing very well. I had both cats on my lap at one point for about 5 seconds before Cupcake got overwhelmed and ran off. Progress!
Also, Cupcake seems to have come around and agrees that the backyard is the safest place to be after all. One day when I was going in the driveway gate, she darted out, only to make it 5 feet before freezing in fear🙀. She seemed grateful when I grabbed her and threw her back in the yard
Mancha is a ray of sunshine as always. Hard to tell, but I don’t think she’s venturing out of the yard as much. Every time I go back to check on Cupcake, Mancha is hanging out in the shade somewhere looking very content (until Cupcake decides it’s murder time🔪).
Were you aware that the city is re-doing the retaining wall next to Hilgard? I don’t remember if they’d started before you left.
It’s a huge operation! I think they’ve already poured four cement trucks into the 20 foot deep piers they dug! I think all the noise they’ve been making has contributed to Cupcake’s fear of going out.
I met one of the new neighbors yesterday, they just moved in!
They’re a couple with one kid and an indoor cat, the mom I met seemed very kind and said I could go in their backyard to retrieve Cupcake anytime.
The plants outside are thriving for the most part, so much so I think I’m supposed to be cutting them back or harvesting them. Here are some pictures, let me know if you want me to do anything about them.
I have been helping myself to the wild strawberries, they’ve been such a treat!
Unfortunately, one section of them never recovered after I put the welcome mat over them for a couple days (to block Cupcake from escaping) and I think I killed them 🙁

Furthermore, I’ve been watering the indoor plants weekly, but I swear they look a little bit droopier than when I got here. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong, or if this is a summer thing, or if they need different light now or what. Here are some pictures, one of the people coming for the 4th is a planty person and I was planning on asking him for tips.
